Crabapple - Midnite Spire

This unique dark purple-leaved columnar tree, is still a fairly rare sight in Edmonton. Its dark purple leaves are a welcome sight as there are no other columnar trees with the same beautiful deep color. The Midnite Spire Crabapple can be a quick grower and put on 12-16" per year in rich soil but will also grow nicely in clay. This tree is not picky and will be one of the easiest trees that you can grow. It typically keeps its leaves until well into October and will only shed them after multiple hard frosts. Ours kept their leaves until almost Halloween this past year in St. Paul. If you are looking for a tree that can act as a single accent or in a row to make a hedge, look no further. The Midnite Spire Crabapple will not disappoint and will turn heads. Growing Requirements in Alberta: This plum is one of the easiest trees to grow in Alberta and it will not require any special care. Water well during the first couple of summers and fertilizer when looking for extra growth. The tree is happy with all types of soils and can handle sun or part shade.

Spring adds soft pink blooms for contrast, then it holds. Leaves stay deep and vibrant well into October 👀, even after frosts.
