Ornamental Plum - Muckle

This very small, fruitless, tidy and easy-to-grow tree, comes from the cross of a Russian almond and Canada plum tree. What you get, is the perfect tree for a small front yard or as a feature tree anywhere in a backyard. It offers a three-season interest in the most unexpected ways. In early spring (typically late May), the Muckle Plum will be covered in a profusion of pink blossoms that give it a look similar to a small Japanese Cherry tree. In summer, this tree holds an almost perfect lollipop shape with attractive small green leaves. Finally, in autumn the tree shows off its apricot color mix of reds, oranges and yellows which are a joy to look at, especially during a sunset or sunrise when the color is magnified.

Growing Requirements in Alberta: This plum is one of the easiest trees to grow in Alberta and it will not require any special care. Water well during the first couple summers and fertilizer when looking for extra growth. The tree is happy with all types of soils and can handle sun or part shade.
