Oak - Regal Prince
The Regal Prince Oak is a quickly rising star in the Edmonton, Alberta area with homeowners. It is also being utilized much more frequently by the city of Edmonton in boulevard plantings. This tightly columnar tree grows quickly once established and will become quite drought tolerant. It is A great replacement tree for the demise of the Swedish aspen which became almost too popular in Edmonton for its good. The Regal Prince Oak is great in small front yards or in rows as privacy screens. It will grow the same unique, columnar shape every time, so you know what you are getting. In our climate, the ultimate size of this tree is most likely around 30 feet tall and 10 feet wide. It will get larger in warmer climates. There are not too many special requirements for this oak tree except to remember to plant it in soil that drains well and to water it well the first couple of summers so drought does not induce decline. Use a mulch bowl around the roots for extra protection.

Growing Requirements in Alberta: This oak is farily easy to grow in Alberta and it will not require any special care outside of watering when dry. Water well during the first couple summers and fertilize when looking for extra growth. Do not fertilize past July. The tree is happy with all types of soils and can handle sun or part shade but will grow quickest in moist, well drained soil.
